Press Release:
March 30 (SeeNews) – Japanese trading company Mitsui & Co Ltd (TYO:8031) said Tuesday that along with partners it has commissioned a wind power and micro-grid pilot in Kamchatka in Russia’s Far East.

Two other Japanese companies — Komaihaltec Inc, a manufacturing firm which has developed a 300-kW wind turbine, and Fuji Electric Co Ltd, are involved in the project which has been realised in cooperation Russian state-owned power company RAO Energy Systems of East (RAO ESE).

The installation is located in an isolated township of Ust-Kamchatsk and consists of three 300-kW turbines and a grid stabilisation system — electric boilers for using excess capacity.

During a one-year demonstration, the partners will verify specifications for cold climate-resistant wind turbines and test the micro-grid system to ensure smooth operation and interconnection between the wind power plant, existing diesel station and heat generation facilities. They will also aim to confirm its potential for widespread introduction in remote areas, including harsh climate locations.

Mitsui noted that in Russia there were some several hundred off-grid areas which face mounting costs of fuel transportation.
