The Amdjarass (also spelled Amdjeres or Am Djerass) town power system in Chad has evolved from a 1.1 MW Vergnet wind-diesel microgrid into a wind-solar-battery-diesel system. Four 275 kW wind turbines were delivered in 2016. InnoVent says a separate 5.124 MWp, 8,400-module tracker PV plant with 10 MWh of batteries began injecting power on 25 September 2025 alongside four 1 MVA generator sets, for a town load then no greater than 1 MW. The reviewed sources do not publish a measured annual renewable-energy share.

Research status
Operating as an expanded hybrid town grid. The original four-turbine, 1.1 MW wind plant is still reported operational. InnoVent reported first PV injection on 25 September 2025, final testing and transformer work in progress, and official completion planned for late November 2025; Le Monde reported in February 2026 that Amdjarass had no routine power cuts and that the solar plant had been inaugurated in October 2025. Vergnet/SOTAFRIC announcements in 2021-2023 described four additional wind turbines, but later 2025-2026 accounts still identify only four turbines, so completion of that wind expansion is not established.

    The wind-farm is located on a plateau near Amdjarass at a height of about 1000m a.s.l. [1]

  • Original phase timeline

    Vergnet says the Government of Chad received the 1.1 MW four-turbine phase in February 2016. A January 2017 contract above EUR 8 million then proposed grid-forming high-capacity storage and controls intended to enable 100% renewable operation. [3]

  • Unverified wind-expansion claim

    Vergnet/SOTAFRIC described an extension with four new turbines, 2.5 MW of solar, and 2.5 MW of generators. A May 2023 market report said civil works for four additional turbines were complete and completion was expected that June. Later project accounts in 2025-2026 still describe only four turbines, so the additional-turbine phase should remain classified as announced rather than verified complete. [4][11][7][8]

  • Solar rating progression

    ADERM described a 5.4 MW solar plant and '10 megawatts' of batteries while construction was underway in March 2025. InnoVent's later commissioning account gives the more specific as-built ratings of 5.124 MWp and 10 MWh; the differing units and project stage are preserved rather than treated as equivalent. [6][7]

  • Solar commissioning sequence

    The PV plant first injected power on 25 September 2025. InnoVent then expected a 15/33 kV transformer by the end of October, followed by final tests and formal completion in late November; the associated 33 kV network was intended to reach the airport and a planned slaughterhouse. [7]
