EarthSpark's Les Anglais microgrid is an operating solar-battery-diesel utility that grew from a 14-customer clean-energy pilot in 2012 into a town-scale smart grid. The rebuilt 2019 configuration centers on 93.3 kWp of PV, a 100 kW power-electronic hub, 205.5 kWh of Samsung lithium-ion storage, and a 30 kW Cummins diesel set. EarthSpark now reports more than 500 connected homes and businesses; the most detailed operating factsheet reports 471 connections, 37 streetlights, and average use of 250–325 kWh/day in July 2021.

Research status
Operating. The original 2015 grid was heavily damaged by Hurricane Matthew in October 2016, including destruction of the distribution network and about 40% of its PV modules, while its core power electronics and battery survived. The project was relaunched in 2018 and received a new battery and power-electronics configuration in June 2019 for 24/7 service. EarthSpark's current site lists Les Anglais as operating, but no newer audited reliability, fuel-share, or battery-health dataset was found.
