Mustique's private island utility has evolved through several distinct solar-diesel-storage phases. The 2015 DHYBRID Solar Valley project added 1 MWp PV to roughly 3 MVA average diesel generation. A later phase reached 1.5 MW PV and integrated a 500 kW/1 MWh Tesla battery. The current DHYBRID case describes an island-wide 7 MWp PV, 5.2 MW/10 MWh BESS, and 10,680 kVA diesel system under its Universal Power Platform; the 2024 EPC account also reports an 18-hour all-solar trial in May 2023.
- Research status
- Operating and substantially expanded. Mustique's own September 2022 update said work was underway to raise solar's share from 16% toward 70%. DHYBRID's current project pages show completed BESS Phase I (1.3 MW/2.257 MWh) and Phase II (5.2 MW/10 MWh) configurations with 7 MWp PV, while Solar Watt Systems reported the full system operating in 2024 and additional Lagoon solar construction. Exact 2026 annual renewable share, BESS chemistry/vendor for the final phase, diesel run hours, and independently audited fuel savings were not found.
