The Bario Central Solar Hybrid Power System supplies the remote Bario Highlands with an off-grid combination of PV, battery storage, and diesel backup. Sarawak Energy records construction beginning in 2010, initial commissioning in September 2015, transfer to its operation in June 2016, and an October 2016 official launch. The launch-era rating was 887 kW and at least 70% of generated energy was expected from solar. Vendor documents preserve design changes around 885.84-906 kWp of PV, 3,860 kWh of battery storage, and varying inverter/diesel totals. Sarawak's current Rural Electrification Masterplan describes a 998 kW station serving more than 400 households and proposes a future 33 kV grid interconnection.

The plan proposes interconnecting Bario to the state grid via an approximately 60 km Ba'kelalan-Bario line and 33 kV substation by 2030; that connection is not yet documented as complete.
