This record is the proposed Jodo (조도) Energy-Independent Island project in Jodo-myeon, Jindo-gun, South Jeolla—not an operating project called simply 'Jo Island.' The LG CNS consortium's plan paired 294 kW of PV, two 750 kW wind turbines, an 8.12 MWh ESS with 4.25 MW PCS, and the existing 3.6 MW oil-fired internal-combustion plant. It targeted 45% renewable supply. Evidence from 2018 and a 2022 Korea Energy Economics Institute study shows that Jodo and the other five-island private-investment projects did not reach a PPA/SPC implementation stage; the planned renewable assets should not be counted as installed.
- Research status
- Stalled/unbuilt proposal. LG CNS still described Jodo as a selected track record in its 2016-2018 sustainability materials, but the 2022 academic review found that none of the five follow-on islands had signed a PPA and a December 2018 Korean report said the same five had failed to establish project companies or show implementation progress after tariff-policy changes destroyed the expected economics. No later authoritative evidence of construction or commissioning at Jodo was located.
