The recovered 'KEMA' project is Leonics' abbreviated label for the RPS Kemar solar-diesel-battery mini-grid in Gerik, Perak, Malaysia—not Kemayan, Pahang. Supplier and TNB presentations document an 850 kWp PV array split between 600 kWp DC-coupled and 250 kWp AC-coupled sections, 850 kW of inverter capacity, 4.8 MWh of 480 VDC battery storage, and four diesel generators totaling 1.6 MW. The project's published 3.30 MW label is Leonics' sum of PV, inverter, and diesel ratings, not a conventional net generation-capacity figure.

Research status
Commissioned in November 2012 for 24-hour rural electrification. A 2018 TNB Energy Services company profile still listed TNBES as EPC and O&M contractor for 342 consumers, but no later project-specific operating report was located. The plant should be described as commissioned/historically operating, with present battery condition, diesel consumption, renewable share, and service availability unverified.

  • Hybrid architecture

    Daytime loads can be served by 250 kWp of AC-coupled PV while the 600 kWp DC-coupled array charges the 480 V battery through MPPT controllers. Battery inverters and diesel sets support the common isolated AC mini-grid and provide overnight/low-solar supply. [2][3]

  • Identity and map correction

    Leonics alternates between 'Kema' in overview graphics and 'Kemar Village, Perak' in the detailed diagram. TNB names the site RPS Kemar, Grik/Gerik, Perak. The recovered coordinates near Kemayan, Pahang are therefore a geocoding error and should not be used for this asset. [2][4]

  • Service design

    The system was intended to provide expandable 24-hour electricity with remote monitoring to settlements and public facilities that lacked normal grid service. [4]
